Tamang has described the species taxonomically and designated the name as Garra magnidiscus (in Latin ''magnus'' means large and ''discus'' means disc) in allusion to the very large adhesive mental disc of this species, which is located just posterior region of mouth that functions as adhesion on substratum and fish can easily station in fast flowing water. ==Source==
